This course is in accordance with the standard of competence as outlined in the Guidelines on Training and Certification for Shipboard Safety Officers based on the STCW Code Tables A-II/2 and A-III/3, IMO Model Course 3.11 and Code of Safe Working practice (as per MCA)
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Understand safety Officers responsibilities as per company SMS.
Conduct of Safety Officer on board the vessel.
Record Keeping on board ships w.r.t safety meeting, safety movies, risk assessments, incident investigations etc.
Get an overview of Code safe working practices for merchant seamen w.r.t safety officer and his responsibilities
Company specific procedures are used for references during the discussion
COURSE CONTENT:
Brief introduction to ISM Code.
Introduction to Health and Safety legislation.
Responsibilities and duties of the Shipboard Safety Officer.
Conducting Safety Meetings and spreading safety awareness on board.
Risk assessment.
Undergoing Audits.
Reporting near misses and accidents; maintaining an Accident prevention Log.
Accident theory and accident investigation.
Handling Stress and Fatigue and its impact on safety.
